Cory Haller is…
a creative writer and creative director who has been building brands and sharing stories for over 18 years. It started with understanding how to put one word in front of the other until the order of those words made people giddy.
I did that with magazines. Then, I fit my words in smaller spaces for the same effect. Turns out stories can be told in many ways — even in advertising.
Recently, I worked as a Creative Director at zag, a marketing and advertising agency based in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. Beyond what you will find here in my portfolio, I have managed teams, created processes, written brand bibles, campaign tool-kits, case studies, and production briefs, revamped site pages and landing pages and worked with suppliers and teams of all disciplines to help change hearts and minds. I mean, I’m not saving the world here or anything, but I am a creative problem solver. I push for work that surprises, delights and delivers. My philosophy is that the work we do as creatives can do anything, but only if it sparks something meaningful in our audiences.
As a leader, I mentor and push for creative and professional growth, and I work with team members to build on their strengths. I also like to help them find those odd quirks that make their voices so unique because, in the end, I don’t like to be the only oddball in the room.
Rando Things
As a Cory, I am legally obligated to wear sunglasses at night. (Thanks, Corey Hart).
I’m a cinephile. It can’t be helped.
My favourite aesthetic is maximalism. I think this reflects the clutter in my brain.
The best ideas aren’t always the best idea for the project.
Brutalist architecture is my least favourite and yet I live in Edmonton.
